Proctoscopy / Anoscopy (Diagnostic)

Proctoscopy and anoscopy are focused examinations of the anal canal and lower rectum. They help identify internal piles, fissures, inflammation, growths and other causes of bleeding, pain or discharge that may not be visible during an external examination.

The short instrument is gently inserted with lubrication in a private clinical setting. The examination usually takes only a few minutes and often needs no anaesthesia, although individual comfort and symptoms are always considered. Findings can frequently be explained immediately.

These tests guide accurate treatment and reduce unnecessary guesswork. Preparation instructions, if needed, are provided before the visit. A biopsy or a more extensive investigation is recommended only when the appearance, symptoms, age or medical history makes it appropriate.
