Anal Warts (Condyloma) Treatment

Anal warts are small growths caused by certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). They may occur around or inside the anal canal and can cause itching, moisture, bleeding or no symptoms at all. Examination establishes their extent and helps distinguish them from other skin lesions.

Treatment may involve prescribed topical therapy, cautery, laser or surgical removal depending on the number, size and location of the warts. Internal lesions require particular care. The clinician explains that treatment removes visible warts but does not instantly eliminate the underlying virus.

Follow-up is important because recurrence can occur, especially during the first months. Patients receive advice on local hygiene, avoiding irritation, sexual-health precautions and HPV vaccination where appropriate. Any rapidly changing, ulcerated or persistently bleeding lesion should be assessed without delay.
